Introducing The New Forest Folklore Society!
We’re thrilled to launch The New Forest Folklore Society — a new community dedicated to celebrating, preserving, and sharing the rich tapestry of stories, legends, traditions and cultural heritage that make the New Forest unique. Founded in 2025, this society brings together researchers, historians, storytellers and folklore enthusiasts with a passion for the living history of our landscape.
📖 What we’re all about:
🔹 Promote the study, understanding, and appreciation of folklore and folk-history with particular reference to the New Forest and in keeping with its unique cultural, historical, and environmental significance.
🔹 Support the collection, preservation, and dissemination of folklore associated with the New Forest, supporting scholarly research, safeguarding heritage, and promoting public education.
🔹 Supporting community projects with museums, archives, schools and organisations.
🌟 Why join?
Whether you’re a lifelong resident, a lover of history, or simply curious about the folklore and traditions of the New Forest, becoming a member offers a chance to connect with like-minded people, contribute to meaningful research, and help preserve our folklore for future generations. You’ll be part of a growing movement that values both tradition and community engagement.
📣 Join us on this journey and help ensure that the fragile identity of the Forest is preserved. ALL are welcome - you do not need to live in the New Forest to join. 🌿
