Although it's been interesting to read the different takes on Queen Elizabeth II around leadership and impact, I've been surprised to not see much about this...
The Queen died at the ripe old age of 96.
The retirement age in Australia is currently 66.5 years (well, when you become eligible for the Aged Pension, at least).
For QEII, that was 30 years of providing impactful and meaningful existence post-'retirement' age.
Other 80 and 90 year olds may not be knighting people and cutting cakes with swords, but they are certainly making an impact with their wisdom and support for younger generations.
I see this as being a great opportunity for us to acknowledge the powerful impact older people have in our community, and the ongoing opportunities and support they should be provided in order to thrive in those golden years.
For those of us lucky enough to work and engage regularly with older adults, we see firsthand the impact and importance of their ongoing contribution to society.
It's my hope that we always provide the support and investment needed to care appropriately for the older population, and continue to innovate to find ways to ensure older people live healthier for longer.
